GREETINGS TO THE FORMER PLAYERS,
COACHES, SUPPORTERS AND BASEBALL FANS OF THE FAMOUS ALPINE COWBOY BASEBALL
ORGANIZATION OF 1946-1958.
Herbert
L. Kokernot jr with suglasses and his trademark stetson hat watching his cowboys
in the late 1950 time frame.
The story of a wealthy gentleman with a deep
love for the sport of baseball and the wherewithall to do something GRAND is
somewhat unique. Herbert L. Kokernot Jr.
and his legendary Alpine Cowboys is a magnificent tale of a magical period in
time, of an assemblage of young world-class baseball talent and personages; a
fascinating history with the Cowboys going to the semi professional national
finals nine times.
The good
news is that the Herbert L. Kokernot Jr. era is in the process of being
artistically captured by a new photo book and a novel.
Both
will occur in the near future.
A GLOSSY TABLE TOP ILLUSTRATED PHOTO BOOK
I am
pleased to announce that there will be two new major publications on the Alpine
Cowboys. The first one off the press will be a formal glossy table top book
published by my eldest son DJ Stout[i]
that will have a full line of photography showcasing Herbert L. Kokernot Jr.,
the players, the teams, key events and the magnificent baseball stadium. The
photographic story will be told through the eyes and lens of the cowboy photo
chronicler Charles Hunter and other professional photographers. The table top book will be fully illustrated by international
sports writers, authors and others. The table top will provide for personal interviews
of some of the former Cowboys, special event photography and personal
recollections of players, fans and supporters. The formal announcement on the
first glossy table top book will be made with a full press announcement by July
2009. It is anticipated that the table top will be completed and in the book
stores sometime during the first quarter of 2010.
[i]
Doyle Stout Jr., referred to in the creative world of business as DJ Stout, was
the Art Director for the Texas Monthly Magazine for a period of 10 plus years
before he joined the prestigious Pentagram Design group as a full partner.
Pentagram offices are in New York, Paris, London, San Francisco and Austin.
THE NOVEL
In the 2006 initial web site it was stated that David
Wilkinson had agreed to produce an epic novel around the life of Herbert L.
Kokernot Jr. and his legendary Alpine Cowboys. David, a fine, accomplished writer, has been researching,
collecting, interviewing and preparing for the novel. David has now reconfirmed that the book is his
priority and that the book will be written sometime in the near future. That is
wonderful news. We will use this site to update those that have an interest in
a tale that will surely end up as a magnificent story and perhaps as an HBO
movie. We wish David well in that endeavor and we will keep you informed of
progress on the book.
